Soliloquy No. 1–7 are a series of related videos constructed from 33 films and several live performances spanning fifty years and all starring the actress Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992). No other face enters the frame and no other voice is heard; Marlene exists as the only person within the video. She engages in circuitous conversations with herself that rely on the tropes of film and provide a familiar rhythm to draw in the viewer. These fragmented pieces of Marlene Dietrich create the illusion for the spectator of being a voyeur into her inner private world, but one built upon fictitious melodrama and false manipulation.
